The development of our building reflects those ideas and incorporates sustainability in day-to-day life. The use of recycled timber throughout the building not only adds to the warm and nurturing atmosphere, but provides children with an environment that uses sustainable and natural materials. At Launch we value nature and the outdoor environment and believe that children benefit from experiencing the seasonal changes, the opportunity for physical development and the opportunity to play in a garden. We believe in encouraging the children to learn about environmental and conservation issues, emphasis is placed on the use of natural and recycled materials, wise water usage, power saving, recycling, worm farming, vegetable gardening, waste minimisation and positive regards and sense of living for all things, we are consistently trying to find other ways to reduce our impact. At Launch the children learn to recycle, re-use and reduce, and the parents also contribute by supplying the centre with recyclable materials to use in the program. Our children collect appropriate food scraps for our worm farm and use the worm compost for our vegetables and the worm ‘wees’ to fertilize our plants, and trees. We have an interest in food that makes us feel our best. Our meals are based on natural ingredients and are free from refined sugar. We limit processed and refined sugars of any kind and are moderate with the use of natural sugars such as those found in fruit, honey and dates. Our onsite cook prepares fresh and nutritious meals every day to promote healthy nutrition. We eat colourfully and consume a wide variety of colours from fruits and vegetables. More colours mean more antioxidants and a larger spectrum of nutrients. We focus on balance for each meal with plenty of fibrous vegetables, healthful fats, proteins, and carbohydrates like gluten-free grains, legumes, starchy vegetables, or fruit. There are many ways a child learns – by watching, by listening but mostly by doing. At Launch Active we support children to develop fundamental movement skills starting from birth, when motor skills like rolling, sitting up alone, pulling to stand, walking, running, throwing, jumping, catching and skipping begin to emerge. These skills are built upon, improved and better controlled throughout early childhood. Fundamental movement skills are gross movement abilities that allow children to move in different ways, balance and stabilize themselves and use objects in their environment. They are the building blocks of more complex movements used in everyday life. Gross motor development provides the basis of all other forms of development. It’s important for healthy brain development that children move. At Launch we enable children to be physically literate by supporting children’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development this creates healthy active movers. Physical literacy is about developing the fundamental movement skills that all children need, such as throwing, catching, running, hopping and jumping. It’s important for children to use large and small muscles daily to allow them to gain increasing control over their bodies.
